MLB submitted its first hard salary cap proposal since 1994 to the Players Association, setting the cap at $245.3M including benefits — below the current payrolls of eight clubs. A $171.2M salary floor would simultaneously require 12 low-spending teams to add payroll. The league also offered players an immediate 50% revenue share. The 1994 cap dispute triggered a strike that wiped out the World Series, and the 2021 CBA talks ended in a 99-day lockout after a similar floor/cap framework was rejected.
