Suárez Elects Free Agency After Clearing Waivers Unclaimed
The 36-year-old righty is now a free agent for the second time this season, though a return to Baltimore on a minor league deal is considered likely.
The Orioles officially announced that Albert Suárez passed through waivers unclaimed following his DFA and has elected free agency rather than accept a Triple-A assignment. This is the second time this season Suárez has gone through this process; he re-signed with Baltimore on a minor league deal after the first instance. The club also non-tendered him last November before re-signing him. Despite a 2.75 ERA in 19.2 innings this season, his peripherals are weak, featuring a 12.3% strikeout rate and 11.1% walk rate.
