Pierce Johnson was placed on the 15-day IL with inflammation in his right elbow on Saturday. The move compounds an already thin Reds bullpen that recently lost starter Graham Ashcraft to the 60-day IL with a UCL strain. To fill the roster gap, Lyon Richardson had his contract selected after being DFA'd in the offseason. Fellow reliever Kyle Nicolas was designated for assignment to open a 40-man roster spot.
