Andrew McCutchen Released by Rangers, Headed to Free Agency
Texas placed the former MVP on release waivers following his DFA. If unclaimed, McCutchen will be free to sign with any club.

The Rangers designated Andrew McCutchen for assignment to make room for infielder Nicky Lopez, then placed him on release waivers per the MLB.com transaction log. If he goes unclaimed, McCutchen becomes a free agent. Texas remains responsible for his $1.25MM guaranteed salary, though a signing team would cover the prorated league minimum. McCutchen had signed a minor league deal with Texas during Spring Training after the Pirates did not pursue him for a fourth stint in Pittsburgh.
