Mets Add LHP Cionel Perez via Contract Selection
New York brings in veteran lefty Cionel Perez on a new minor league deal after he was outrighted and released by Washington earlier in May.
The Mets officially selected the contract of left-hander Cionel Perez from Triple-A Syracuse. Perez had signed with Washington before the season, made the Opening Day roster, but struggled to a 6.19 ERA in 16 appearances before being outrighted off the 40-man roster. He rejected that assignment, became a free agent, and signed a new minor league deal with New York shortly after. Perez was effective with Baltimore from 2022–24, posting a 3.12 ERA over 164.2 innings.
