Minnesota designates struggling starter/reliever SWR for assignment, opening a roster spot for Triple-A righty John Klein.
The Twins officially designated Simeon Woods Richardson for assignment after he posted a 7.74 ERA over 47.2 innings this season. Woods Richardson had been removed from the rotation two weeks prior but made an emergency start Thursday when Kendry Rojas was scratched with an elbow issue, allowing five runs in 2.2 innings. With no minor league options remaining, the Twins opted to move on rather than keep him in a relief role. John Klein, already on the 40-man roster, was recalled from Triple-A in the corresponding move.
