The Red Sox completed a trade sending pitching prospect Connelly Early to the Washington Nationals for infielder Curtis Mead. Early is a promising left-handed starter under team control through 2032. Mead, 25, had posted 1.6 WAR this season after a combined 0.1 WAR in his first three years. Boston's chief baseball officer Craig Breslow framed the deal as improving the team rather than winning the trade.
