The New York Yankees are promoting George Lombard Jr., their top-ranked prospect, from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 2023 first-round pick (No. 26 overall) slashed .268/.405/.440 in 56 Triple-A games this season. He is expected to take over shortstop duties, a position that has been inconsistent between Anthony Volpe and José Caballero. Volpe is among the players being optioned back to the minors to make room.
