Melton Back and Thriving After Early-Season Elbow Inflammation
The Tigers righty missed two months with elbow inflammation but has posted a 1.80 ERA across 55 innings since returning in late May.
Detroit Tigers pitcher Troy Melton was sidelined for the first two months of the 2025 season due to elbow inflammation. He returned to the rotation in late May and has been highly effective, going 5-1 with a 1.80 ERA over nine starts and 55 innings. A key factor in his resurgence has been an increased reliance on his cutter, which he is throwing harder and at nearly double the rate of last season. His cutter's whiff rate jumped from 12.8% to 26.0% while its BAA dropped from .368 to .083.
