The new White Sox catcher was hit by a 98 mph fastball and diagnosed with a fifth metacarpal fracture the same night.
Joey Bart, recently acquired by the White Sox, fractured the fifth metacarpal in his left hand after being struck by a pitch from Red Sox reliever Erik Miller. The team announced the fracture diagnosis the same night, making an IL placement essentially inevitable. Bart had been expected to serve as Chicago's primary catcher until top prospect Kyle Teel returns from a high ankle sprain, tentatively in early September. Drew Romo replaced Bart in the game, and Edgar Quero is the likely recall from Triple-A Charlotte.
