The Nationals signed left-hander Matt Krook to a major league contract and immediately activated him. He slots into the active roster spot vacated by PJ Poulin, who was placed on the 15-day IL retroactive to July 16 with a left flexor strain. To create 40-man roster space, Richard Lovelady was transferred to the 60-day IL.
