The Athletics opened the second half with a blowout loss to the Washington Nationals, 23-4, at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. Starter Gage Jump was pulled after 3.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out eight. The A's had entered the game on a nine-game losing streak to close the first half. José Suarez relieved Jump to finish the fourth inning.
