Dan Altavilla has opted out of his minor league contract with Kansas City and is now a free agent. He spent the entire stint at Triple-A Omaha, going 20 appearances with a 5.11 ERA, 15% walk rate, and 15% strikeout rate. Prior to signing with the Royals in late May, he was released by the Twins after a 7.32 ERA at Triple-A St. Paul. Altavilla is banking on his career MLB track record — a 4.00 ERA over 148.2 innings — to attract interest.
