Fairchild Elects Free Agency After Clearing Waivers
The Guardians DFA'd the outfielder to make room for top prospect Cooper Ingle, and Fairchild used his service time rights to hit the open market.
Stuart Fairchild was designated for assignment by Cleveland last week and went unclaimed on outright waivers. With three-plus years of MLB service, he exercised his right to elect free agency rather than accept an outright assignment. Fairchild appeared in 14 games for the Guardians this season, posting a weak slash line with 3 hits and 14 strikeouts in 14 at-bats. His roster spot was taken by prospect Cooper Ingle, who is expected to platoon in left field and DH.
