The Cardinals have promoted outfielder Joshua Báez, their top power-speed prospect, to the major league roster. The move comes with the 2027 rookie eligibility and prospect promotion incentive deadline in mind. Báez, a 2021 second-round pick, struggled through four difficult minor league seasons before breaking out in 2025 with a .287/.384/.500 slash line across High-A and Double-A while cutting his strikeout rate to under 21%. Baseball Prospectus ranked him the No. 84 overall prospect entering the current season.
