Curtis Mead was hit by a pitch from Oakland's Jack Perkins in his Red Sox debut on July 27, leaving the game after just two plate appearances. Initial X-rays at the A's Sacramento affiliate showed no break, but follow-up imaging confirmed a broken left wrist. Mead was officially placed on the injured list on July 28, one day after the injury occurred. The severity suggests he will miss most of the remaining season.
