The Diamondbacks selected right-hander Dennis Santana from Triple-A Reno and designated left-hander Philip Abner for assignment in a corresponding move. Santana signed with Arizona on a minor league deal August 6th after the Pirates released him following a rough 2026 stint with a 6.05 ERA in 41.2 innings. He was effective for Pittsburgh in 2024-25, posting a combined ERA under 2.30 across roughly 115 innings. The team is 66-58 and holding an NL Wild Card spot, but the move is expected to be short-term given the strong recent performance of other bullpen arms.
