Mets Fire Mendoza, Install Andy Green as Interim Manager
New York made its first in-season managerial change since 2008, replacing Carlos Mendoza with former Padres skipper Andy Green.
The Mets officially announced the dismissal of Carlos Mendoza on Friday, ending his tenure as manager. Andy Green, who previously managed the San Diego Padres and had been serving as the Mets' senior vice president of player development, was named interim manager for the rest of the season. It marks the first in-season managerial change for either New York club since the Mets fired Willie Randolph in 2008. The move follows an extended stretch of poor on-field performance by the team.
