Mariners Add Depth Catcher Willie MacIver via Waiver Claim
Seattle claims the 29-year-old backstop from Toronto and sends him to Triple-A Tacoma, giving the club a third catcher on the 40-man roster.
The Mariners claimed catcher Willie MacIver off waivers from the Blue Jays after Toronto designated him for assignment. MacIver was sent to Triple-A Tacoma and will serve as catching depth behind Cal Raleigh and Jhonny Pereda. Seattle had open 40-man spots and did not need to make a corresponding move. MacIver has strong Triple-A numbers — a .286/.376/.470 line across 1,146 plate appearances — and has two option years remaining.
