The Mariners are optioning rookie shortstop Colt Emerson to Triple-A Tacoma following a severe offensive slump. Emerson hit just .157/.185/.196 since the start of July, posting a 34.4% strikeout rate across 68 big-league games. Infielder Brock Rodden will be selected to the roster in his place. Emerson, who signed an $95MM extension this season, is expected to work on plate discipline and contact quality in the minors.
