New York designated right-hander Kevin Herget for assignment after a single appearance, a typical short-term roster maneuver.
The Mets selected Kevin Herget's contract yesterday and immediately DFA'd him after one scoreless inning against the Marlins. Herget, 34, is a journeyman reliever with limited big-league strikeout stuff and has been designated before, giving him the right to elect free agency if he clears waivers. He spent the early part of this season on the minor league IL and has thrown just 13 1/3 innings since activation in late June.
