Phillies Sign Nestor Cortes, Option Him to Low-A to Build Up
Philadelphia adds rotation depth by signing the 31-year-old lefty, who is recovering from elbow and biceps injuries that limited him last season.
The Phillies have officially signed free-agent lefty Nestor Cortes to a major league contract. Cortes will be optioned to Low-A Clearwater as he builds up arm strength following left elbow flexor strain and left biceps tendinitis that cut short his 2025 season. He split last year between Milwaukee and San Diego, making just eight total starts. Righty Brian Keller was designated for assignment in a corresponding roster move.
