Rays Sign INF Jorge Mateo, Option Williams to Triple-A

The Tampa Bay Rays have signed infielder Jorge Mateo and optioned an infielder to Triple-A, per Adam Berry of MLB.com.

The roster arithmetic had already been set in motion before this move landed. Earlier this week, the Rays designated right-hander Trevor Martin to clear a 40-man spot for Mateo, and the trade that brought Mateo to Tampa Bay was reported by Jon Heyman and Francys Romero. The corresponding active roster spot opens with the Triple-A option.
