The Red Sox and Nationals have agreed to a trade sending left-handed starter Connelly Early to Washington in exchange for infielder Curtis Mead, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Mead is expected to play third base for Boston, potentially shifting Caleb Durbin to second. Early, 24, has a 3.44 ERA in 17 starts this season but has been out in July with elbow inflammation and recently resumed throwing. Neither team has officially confirmed the deal.
