The Mets are sending catcher Ben Rortvedt to the Dodgers for right-hander Chayce McDermott, who was recently designated for assignment in Los Angeles. Rortvedt was not on the Mets' 40-man roster, so he does not immediately require a 40-man spot with the Dodgers. The Dodgers have a catching need after Will Smith has been on the IL for nearly two months with an inflamed disk, and Dalton Rushing was held out of a recent game with an arm issue. Rortvedt is known for his defense and the Dodgers have repeatedly pursued him as a depth option.
