Seth Martinez Outrighted to Triple-A by Red Sox
Boston sent the 31-year-old reliever to Worcester after designating him for assignment, giving him the option to elect free agency instead.

The Red Sox officially outrighted right-hander Seth Martinez to Triple-A Worcester following a DFA three days prior. Martinez has the right to reject the assignment and elect free agency, a route he took when the Marlins outrighted him last September. He posted a 5.55 ERA in 60 innings for Worcester this season, with strikeouts down sharply and 14 home runs allowed. Boston may cycle him or similar depth arms through brief big-league stints as rosters expand to 28 on September 1.
