The A's outfielder will have left hip surgery Friday to address a lingering impingement, ending his season after 453 plate appearances.
Manager Mark Kotsay confirmed Tyler Soderstrom will undergo left hip surgery on Friday, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Soderstrom had been dealing with a hip impingement since late June, returned from a brief IL stint for five weeks, then was shut down again over the weekend. He finished the year slashing .245/.338/.472 with 19 home runs over 453 plate appearances. The A's hope the surgery resolves the issue fully and allows Soderstrom to enter next season healthy.
