Tommy John, who pitched from 1963 to 1989 and recorded 288 wins over 700 starts, has died at age 82. He is best known as the first recipient of ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery performed by Dr. Frank Jobe in 1974. His successful recovery from that procedure opened the door for thousands of players to extend or save their careers.
