Tommy John, who pitched in the majors from 1963 to 1989, has died at age 82. He is best known as the first recipient of ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery performed by Dr. Frank Jobe in 1974. Over 2,700 professional players have since undergone some form of the procedure. John finished with 288 wins and 700 starts but was never elected to the Hall of Fame during his lifetime.
