Boston officially placed RHP Garrett Whitlock on the 15-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. The move was made retroactive to August 10, meaning he is eligible to return in late August at the earliest. Elbow inflammation can be a significant concern for pitchers and may affect his availability beyond the minimum IL stint. The Red Sox recalled RHP Greg Weissert from Triple-A Worcester to fill the roster spot.
