The Yankees have released right-handed reliever Rafael Montero, as announced by their Triple-A affiliate in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Montero, who signed a minor league deal in February, never reached the majors this season after visa issues delayed his camp arrival and pushed his debut to late April. He threw 27 innings at Triple-A with a 5.67 ERA, though underlying metrics including a 25.8% strikeout rate, 44.6% ground-ball rate, and 93.9 mph average fastball suggest the surface number is somewhat inflated by a .385 BABIP. Montero is now available to sign with any club seeking bullpen depth.
