Woodford Elects Free Agency After Clearing Waivers
The 29-year-old righty opts out of a minor league assignment with Chicago, ending his second stint with the Cubs this season.
Jake Woodford was designated for assignment by the Cubs on August 4 when trade acquisitions Tyrone Taylor and Ryan Zeferjahn were activated. Woodford, who is out of options, had previously been DFA'd around the All-Star Break before returning on a minor league deal. He posted a 7.18 ERA across 26 1/3 innings in 18 appearances split between the Cubs and Brewers in 2025. After clearing waivers, Woodford chose free agency over an outright assignment to Triple-A Iowa.
