Jake Woodford Outrighted by Cubs, Free Agency Option Available
Chicago cleared Woodford off the 40-man roster after a brief one-appearance stint following his July 4 signing.
The Cubs designated Jake Woodford for assignment last weekend when Phil Maton was activated from the IL, then ran him through outright waivers unclaimed. Woodford now has the right to elect free agency. He made one appearance for Chicago, allowing three runs on five hits over two innings in Cincinnati. The 29-year-old right-hander has now appeared for six MLB teams, posting a near-7.00 ERA in low-leverage relief work for Milwaukee earlier this season.
