Jeremy Peña Returns; Braden Shewmake DFA'd by Houston
The Astros activated their starting shortstop from the injured list and cut ties with the infielder who filled in during his absence.
Jeremy Peña has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list, ending his stint on the shelf with a hamstring strain. Braden Shewmake, acquired from the Yankees in mid-April specifically to cover for Peña, was designated for assignment. Shewmake had only recently returned from his own IL stint due to an adductor strain, appearing in just two games before being let go. He posted a .665 OPS in a utility role across second base, third base, and shortstop before his injury.
