The Athletics' standout first baseman is expected to miss time with a thumb injury, putting his AL All-Star start in jeopardy.

Nick Kurtz is expected to be placed on the injured list with a right thumb strain, per MLB.com's Martin Gallegos. The timing of the injury is unclear, though Kurtz had left a recent game with an illness before returning.
