The Giants officially placed Casey Schmitt on the 10-day injured list with a torn meniscus in his left knee. The injury occurred during a win over Milwaukee when Schmitt's knee buckled as he braked sharply returning to first base. Manager Tony Vitello indicated postgame that imaging would be needed, making the IL move expected. Schmitt had been having a career year, slashing .271/.301/.483 with 21 home runs in 409 plate appearances.
