Cubs DFA Jake Woodford Again After Brief Return
Chicago designates the 29-year-old reliever for assignment, his second DFA of the 2025 season, as roster space was needed for trade acquisitions.
The Cubs designated right-hander Jake Woodford for assignment to make room for newly activated trade acquisitions Tyrone Taylor and Ryan Zeferjahn. Woodford, who is out of options, was previously DFA'd around the All-Star Break before returning on a minor league deal. He posted a 7.18 ERA across 26 1/3 innings in 18 appearances split between Chicago and Milwaukee this season. He will go on waivers and is expected to elect free agency if he clears.
