Ornelas Opts Out of Yankees Minor League Deal
The 26-year-old infielder, hitting .299 with 9 HR at Triple-A, is forcing New York's hand on a potential roster decision.
Jonathan Ornelas is opting out of his non-roster minor league deal with the Yankees, per reporter Francys Romero. He will become a free agent if the Yankees do not select him to the MLB roster. Ornelas has posted a strong .299/.362/.480 line with nine home runs in 280 Triple-A plate appearances this season, well above his career Triple-A norms. Known primarily for his glove and infield versatility, the former third-round pick has limited big league experience, hitting .208 without a homer in 32 games with Texas and Atlanta from 2023–25.
