Marlins Release LHP John King After Late-Season Velocity Drop
John King was designated for assignment and subsequently placed on release waivers after a sharp August decline and significant velocity losses.

The Marlins designated left-hander John King for assignment on August 23 and placed him on release waivers on August 26. King posted a 3.99 ERA in 49 2/3 innings overall but collapsed in August, allowing a 13.50 ERA in 6 2/3 innings across seven appearances. He also lost 2.6 mph on his sinker and 2.2 mph on his slider, and his strong ERA was propped up by an unsustainably low .191 BABIP. With five-plus years of service time, King can refuse a minor league assignment and is expected to reach free agency if unclaimed.
