The Mets have placed outfielder Luis Robert Jr. on outright waivers, giving all 29 other clubs 48 hours to put in a claim. A claiming team would inherit roughly $4.89MM in remaining obligations, including a $2MM buyout, plus over $5MM in luxury tax savings for New York. Robert missed nearly three months with a lumbar disc herniation but has hit .286/.342/.557 in August since returning. The out-of-contention Mets, sitting at 60-75, are shedding payroll as the season winds down.
