Pirates Name Justin Newman Director of Amateur Scouting
Newman, a Pirates front-office member since 2017, steps into the scouting director role Ben Cherington said he intended to fill in late September.
Pittsburgh has promoted Justin Newman, previously the team's director of player analysis, to director of amateur scouting. Newman replaces Justin Horowitz, who left after the 2025 season to become the Nationals' assistant GM. The Pirates leaned on assistant GM Kevan Graves to oversee the 2026 draft in the interim, using the sixth overall pick on LSU outfielder Derek Curiel. Horowitz's two drafts produced top prospects Konnor Griffin and Seth Hernandez, both considered among the game's elite young talents.
