Skubal Headlines 2026-27 Free Agent SP Class After Strong Return from Elbow Surgery
The two-time Cy Young winner had a bone chip removed mid-season but rebounded to post near-identical numbers to his award-winning campaigns.
Tarik Skubal is the consensus top free agent entering the 2026-27 offseason, having won back-to-back AL Cy Young Awards in 2024 and 2025 with a combined 2.30 ERA over 387.1 innings. He missed time mid-season for elbow surgery to remove a loose body but returned within 43 days via a minimally invasive procedure. His final 16 starts produced a 2.36 ERA with a 31.1% strikeout rate, mirroring his Cy Young form. He continued that dominance into the playoffs, tossing six innings of one-run ball in his first postseason start.
