Strzelecki Elects Free Agency After Cardinals DFA, Outright
The 32-year-old reliever turned down a Triple-A assignment from St. Louis and enters the free agent market for the third time in 2026.

The Cardinals designated Peter Strzelecki for assignment Wednesday and subsequently outrighted him to Triple-A Memphis, which he rejected in favor of free agency. Strzelecki had joined St. Louis on a minor league deal in late July and posted a 5.79 ERA over 14 innings before landing on the 15-day IL with right forearm extensor inflammation. He was reinstated from the IL before the DFA. Strzelecki, who also pitched in the minors for the Yankees and Brewers in 2026, is expected to pursue another minor league contract.
