The Chicago White Sox announced a three-player roster move, recalling right-handed pitcher Tyler Davis from Class AAA Charlotte while optioning right-hander Jonathan Cannon and infielder/outfielder Rikuu Nishida to the same affiliate.

Nishida's stay on the active roster was brief. Per the club's earlier announcement, he had been called up when Andrew Benintendi was placed on the Bereavement/Family Medical Emergency List ahead of the White Sox's game against Texas. With that roster spot presumably no longer needed, Nishida heads back to Charlotte alongside Cannon.

Davis's recall adds a right-handed arm to a bullpen that has been navigating some attrition — Huáscar Brazobán was placed on the 15-day IL with a left lat strain prior to the Texas series, thinning the relief corps.

What remains unconfirmed

The club has not specified what prompted the timing of Davis's recall beyond the transaction itself, nor has it indicated Benintendi's expected return from the Bereavement list. Cannon's role going forward in Charlotte is also unaddressed.
