The Yankees designated right-hander Justin Topa for assignment per an official team announcement. Topa signed a minor league deal in mid-August and was added to the roster Aug. 25, but lasted only two appearances. He has more than five years of service time and cannot be optioned, so he now enters a 48-hour waiver process. The move was made in conjunction with activating lefty Max Fried from the 15-day IL.
