Cardinals Lock Up Rookie 2B Wetherholt on 8-Year, $112.5M Deal
St. Louis secures its young second baseman long-term in one of the largest extensions given to a Cardinals player in years.
JJ Wetherholt, the Cardinals' rookie second baseman, has agreed to an eight-year, $112.5 million contract extension, according to a person familiar with the deal. The agreement was reached on July 10 but had not yet been officially announced by the team. The deal is the largest extension for a Cardinals player since Paul Goldschmidt's five-year, $130 million contract in 2019.
