David Peterson Dealt to Cubs After Years as Longest-Tenured Met
Lefty starter David Peterson has been traded to Chicago, where he hopes to rediscover the form that earned him an All-Star nod last season.

David Peterson, the longest-tenured Met, was informed of his trade to the Chicago Cubs by team president David Stearns following a Wednesday doubleheader. The 30-year-old lefty expressed initial surprise but said he is excited for the new opportunity. Peterson has struggled significantly in 2025, posting a 7.71 ERA and 1.95 WHIP as a starter, though he has been more effective in a bulk relief role behind an opener. He says he feels healthy and is confident he can contribute to the Cubs.
