Roa Elects Free Agency After Cubs Outright Him
The right-hander declined a minor league assignment and enters the free agent market after a rough 2025 split between MLB and Triple-A.

The Cubs outrighted relievers Christian Roa and Eduarniel Nuñez through waivers on Wednesday, a week after both were designated for assignment. Roa, who has been outrighted before and thus held the right to elect free agency, declined the minor league assignment. Nuñez, clearing waivers for the first time, does not have that right and will remain in the Chicago organization. Roa struggled in both the majors and Triple-A this season, posting a 5.19 ERA-equivalent with seven walks and three HBP over 8.2 MLB innings and allowing 17 runs in 15.1 Triple-A frames.
