Yankees Swap Bednar for Bird as Closer Hits Paternity List
David Bednar is temporarily unavailable as the Yankees' closer, with Jake Bird returning from Triple-A to fill the bullpen gap.

To fill the roster spot, New York recalled right-hander Jake Bird from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Bird had been optioned down on June 20th to make room for an Elmer Rodríguez start.
