The Cardinals are planning to select the contract of 24-year-old right-handed reliever Luis Gastelum, according to two St. Louis beat reporters. Gastelum was traveling to St. Louis and is expected to be on the roster within a couple of days, with exact timing potentially tied to how the pitching staff is used in a doubleheader. In Triple-A this season, Gastelum has posted a 2.27 ERA across 43.2 innings with a 28% strikeout rate and 51% ground-ball rate. Most of his season damage came in a single bad outing on May 13, making his underlying numbers even stronger.
